Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has expressed his support for young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel to continue his fine form and cement a spot in India's playing XI for the upcoming first Test against South Africa. The much-awaited clash is scheduled to begin on November 14 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
With both sides aiming for a strong start in the two-match series, India face an interesting selection decision regarding Jurel's inclusion. The youngster, who recently struck twin centuries in the second unofficial Test against South Africa A, has emerged as a leading contender for the wicketkeeper's role. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has also hinted that Jurel will find a spot in the Playing XI.
Pujara praised Jurel's maturity and temperament under pressure, highlighting how the youngster has consistently performed with composure and responsibility. The veteran batter believes that the No. 6 position would perfectly suit Jurel in India's current setup, offering stability to the middle order while providing the flexibility to accelerate when required.
