The IFP has retained ward 23 of the Abaqulusi Municipality at Vryheid in the north of KwaZulu-Natal in a by-election, in the process widening its margin of support.
Yesterdays by-election was held after IFP ward councillor, XJ Zungu passed away in April this year.
According to the IEC, the IFP secured 51 of the votes in the by election.
The IFP has increased its support in the ward from 37.5 of the votes in the 2021 municipal elections, while ANC support decreased from 33 to 21.
The MK Party came third in the by-election with 18 of the votes.
