IBM has successfully delivered two major SAP S/4HANA system upgrades for Toyota South Africa Motors, marking a key milestone in the automotive company's enterprise-wide digital transformation journey. Executed in collaboration with SAP, the upgrades aim to enhance operational agility, business resilience, and data-driven decision-making across Toyota's core operations.
With mainstream support for legacy SAP ECC systems ending in 2027, IBM guided Toyota through a Brownfield upgrade strategy. This approach allowed the company to transition seamlessly to SAP S/4HANA while preserving existing business process investments, minimizing operational disruption, and accelerating deployment timelines.
The first upgrade focused on Toyota's national Vehicle Management System, a critical platform for managing orders, inventory, sales, and financial reporting across manufacturing and dealerships. Migration to SAP S/4HANA has provided Toyota with real-time data visibility, improved inventory optimization, and faster responsiveness to customer demand.
