HX Expeditions has launched two new fully electric Zodiac boats, which will be deployed aboard MS Fram and MS Fridtjof Nansen in the Arctic and Antarctic.

The MK 5 vessels operate entirely on electric power, minimising emissions and underwater noise pollution. They will be used primarily for science-based excursions, carrying guest scientists conducting research, as well as the ships own science teams.

Sound pollution is one of the most underestimated environmental impacts in these polar regions, said Verena Meraldi , Chief Scientist at HX Expeditions. For wildlife under the surface, especially whales, noise can mean the difference between thriving and struggling. With these silent boats added to our hybrid-electric ships, were not just enhancing the experience for our guest scientists and guests, were reducing our environmental footprint in the places that need it most.
