Helping Operators To Enhance Fuel Efficiency

Fuel is emerging as a growing concern for transport operators, as geopolitical instability and rising prices continue to place pressure on operating margins. Against this backdrop, improving fuel efficiency and gaining tighter control of fuel usage is becoming critical for fleet performance and cost management. According to Renko Bergh, co-founder of CtrlFleet, digital tools are increasingly being used to address these challenges through greater integration and real-time visibility. We recently rolled out a new integration with a fuel platform provider, marking the first of several planned integrations aimed at improving how operators plan and execute fuel orders, he told Freight News. This is a game-changer for transport operators in the efficient planning and execution of fuel orders. The system synchronises fuel depots with live product pricing, allowing this information to be reflected directly within CtrlFleets scheduling interface. This enables operators to identify the most cost-effective or strategically positioned refuelling points and incorporate these into route planning using a drag-and- drop scheduling function. Once a fuel stop is selected, the system automatically generates a fuel order within the integrated fuel network platform, provided that predefined validation criteria are met. The fuel order number is then fed back into the CtrlFleet system, ensuring full traceability and alignment between planning and execution. For operators using the CtrlFleet driver application, the process is extended further, with fuel instructions and order numbers communicated directly to drivers in real time. This reduces manual coordination, improves accuracy and ensures that fuel planning is seamlessly integrated into daily fleet operations. According to Bergh, the integration between CtrlFleet and fuel platform networks enables transport operators to improve planning and make more informed decisions on where trucks should refuel. By eliminating the need to capture orders across multiple platforms, the system provides a single point of digital control, offering full visibility of vehicle activity, including revenue trips, fuel spend, rest stops and maintenance planning, he said. The company recently completed and implemented a two-directional, order-level integration with a major fuel transaction digital platform for a client in the agricultural sector, where loading and offloading points are often inconsistent and located in remote areas. This creates challenges in identifying the most cost-effective refuelling points, said Bergh. Because the client uses CtrlFleet to schedule these fluctuating routes, the integration synchronises fuel network locations with real- time pricing, which is displayed directly within the platform, he explained. This gives controllers immediate visibility of optimal refuelling points, allowing them to plan and schedule fuel orders accordingly. Once scheduled, the integration automatically creates a corresponding order within the fuel network platform, ensuring that the transaction is validated and ready for execution when the vehicle arrives at the refuelling point.
