Greenpop , a local Cape Town-based organisation with roots extending across sub-Saharan Africa, has deepened its partnership with Mulanje Mission Hospital to help communities recover from climate shocks and protect long-term livelihoods on tea slopes and riverfronts.
The organisation has worked with the hospital since 2017 and now supports micro-tree nurseries, beekeeping, buyback schemes and village savings groups that pay households per seedling, creating local markets.
Healthy ecosystem equals healthy communityMisha Teasdale, Greenpop's co-founder and director, said healthier ecosystems make healthier communities. He explained that soil erosion, heat and extreme weather raise public health risks and damage crops.
