An inaugural large vessel capable of operating on green methanol, Ane Maersk , made its maiden voyage to Dubai where it was received by logistics multinational DP World at the Port of Jebel Ali.

Serving a route (AE7) linking Asia and Europe, the green liner reached the UAE on its rotational journey, commencing from Hamburg, Germany, and encompassing various ports across Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Gulf region.

Following cargo operations in Dubai, the vessel would proceed to ports in China and Asia, said Maersk.

Christopher Cook, managing director of Maersk UAE, Oman, and Qatar, described the vessel call as a significant milestone in the carriers quest to decarbonise ocean transportation.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and managing director of DP World GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), welcomed the Ane Maersk to Jebel Ali.

He highlighted the vessel's role as a symbol of the industry's shift towards sustainability, aligning with DP World's own carbon reduction objectives.

Damithan stressed the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders in achieving net-zero emissions and commended the line for its role in sustainability solutions.

Ane Maersk is equipped with a cutting-edge dual-fuel engine capable of running on green methanol, marking the first of 18 large vessels ordered by Maersk to join its fleet between 2024 and 2025.

These vessels feature an innovative design, placing the bridge and accommodation at the vessel's forefront, allowing for increased cargo capacity and reduced consumption per container, as outlined in the press release.
