Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane says more than 5000 learners are still awaiting placement for the 2026 academic year .
Chiloane says that as of Monday the departments online admissions system recorded a total of 1478 grade 1 learners who remain unplaced as well as 3986 grade 8 learners . He did however, say that the department will continue to release placement and transfer offers daily through the online admissions system.
Gauteng Education Departments spokesperson, Steve Mabona says this figure is largely due to parents refusing to have their children placed at alternative schools.
