The national government is now considering deploying the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure NATJOINTS to take on the gang violence raging in the Western Cape, according to remarks by Paul Mashatile in Parliament.
Mashatile told the National Council of Provinces that a lack of coordination in policing has weakened efforts to curb gang-related murders, and that NATJOINTS could plug those gaps with better intelligence and integrated operations.
NATJOINTS brings together policing, defence and the national intelligence service, combining resources so arrests are backed by info solid enough to lead to convictions. Without that, arrests alone risk putting suspects back on the street within days, as reported by Smile FM .
