Rulani Mokwena was once an assistant coach and interim head coach at Orlando Pirates - and he would of course consider returning if the Bucs offered him the top job.
Pirates currently do not have a head coach following Jose Riveiros departure last month. Mokwena also mutually agreed to part ways with Moroccan giants Wydad at around the same time.
Rulani Mokwena on potentially coaching Orlando PiratesRulani fielded questions on a potential return to Orlando Pirates in an interview with SuperSport on Friday 6 June. He particularly had kind words for Bucs chairman Dr Irvin Khoza .
"Of course, I would consider it. It is a big club. It still has people who are very close to me and to my heart. I am very fond of Dr Khoza. He will always have a special place in my heart, he said.
"I've been fortunate enough that as a coach, I've learnt a lot about leadership from three of the best football leaders on the continent. Dr Khoza is number one for sure - general language, history, geography, football, humanity, religion, everything."
The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss also praised the clubs owner Patrice Motsepe and Wydad President Hicham Ait Menna.
Besides his previous coaching stints at the Soweto giants, Mokwena has strong historical links with them. His grandfather Eric Sono was the clubs captain in the 1960s and his uncle Jomo Sono was their star player in the 1970s.
The 38-year-old tactician served as assistant coach at the Buccaneers under Milutin Sredojevic between 2017 and 2019.
He was then appointed interim head coach when Sredojevic resigned in August 2019 and was in charge for 14 matches.
Mokwena hinted that there is interest in his services both domestically and internationally. However, he did not provide specifics. Speculation is rife that newly crowned CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC and an unnamed Tanzanian club are interested.
