Deputy Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Nomalungelo Gina, says increasing the number of women in senior positions at South Africa's science institutions remains a challenge.
She was speaking at the South African Women in Science Awards SAWiSA, hosted on Thursday night at the Imvelo Safari Lodge in Bloemfontein.
Gina praises the finalists in both the emerging and established researcher categories, noting that their groundbreaking work has the potential to improve the lives of ordinary South Africans.
