African National Congress ANC Gauteng Chair and Premier Panyaza Lesufi says all municipalities in Gauteng have signed a landmark agreement to consolidate policing resources to more effectively combat crime.

He made the announcement during the opening of the ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team Lekgotla in Fourways, which runs over two days .

Lesufi says this collaborative agreement made it possible for the province to assist law enforcement in recovering the bodies of three missing Free State police officers, who were found in the Hennops River in Centurion earlier this week.

"We are under siege by criminals. We have now signed a very important agreement with all municipalities, and I am glad the executive mayors have agreed with us," says Lesufi. "There is no municipality that can fight crime alone. There is no province that can fight crime alone. For the first time, weve put our boundaries and differences aside. We have placed all law enforcement resources under one roof and under the command and control of the SAPS."

He credits the successful location of the three Free State officers to the combined efforts of local municipalities, law enforcement, and private security companies.
