The Government of the Republic of Gabon and Huawei Technologies Gabon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU on December 23, 2025, signaling a new phase in Gabons digital transformation. The signing was overseen by Mr. Mark-Alexandre Doumba, Minister of Digital Economy, Digitalization, and Innovation, and witnessed by Madam Wang Lei, CEO CEMAC of Huawei for Central Africa. This agreement follows discussions with President H.E. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, reflecting the states commitment to advancing technology-driven development.
The MoU establishes a collaborative framework between the Gabonese government and Huawei, aimed at supporting strategic digital initiatives across the country. The partnership is anchored on three main pillars: the creation of a joint project committee to identify and prioritize national digital projects, the integration of Gabonese startups and enterprises to strengthen local innovation, and skills transfer programs to develop national expertise and ensure digital sovereignty.
As part of the collaboration, existing initiatives such as the Connected Schools Program will be expanded, and new high-tech projects requiring advanced technological expertise will be launched. From 2026 onwards, these initiatives are expected to serve as catalysts for Gabonese startups, fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem and promoting a modern, digitally empowered nation.
