Former Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta has signed for Sevilla on a one-year contract. The 36-year-old, a free agent after his Atletico Madrid contract expired, just landed Seville for his medical today.
The veteran defender reportedly rejected interest from his boyhood club Osasuna, as well as Celta and offers from MLS and Qatar, to join the Andalusian club.
During his two seasons at Atletico Madrid, he played 54 matches, scoring once in LaLiga, but the club chose not to renew his deal. At Sevilla, the plan is for him to play more as a centre back than a full-back, although his versatility is a plus along with his experience.
