floyd shivambu reveals why he wont rejoin anc or eff as he mulls new party

Former uMkhonto weSizwe MK Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu has described the African National Congress ANC as directionless and Economic Freedom Fighters EFF as a cult.

Shivambu briefed the media on his political future on Thursday 19 June after his demotion in MK Party earlier this month.

Floyd Shivambu to explore formation of new political party

He claimed political scoundrels within the party had used fake intelligence reports to remove him as Secretary-General and block his redeployment to Parliament. The reports accused him of plotting to remove party leader Jacob Zuma.

Following his removal, comrades from MK Party, ANC and EFF approached him on the way forward, Shivambu said.

A substantial number of them said, dont ever rejoin the ANC, and I fully agree with them. I will never join the ANC. Its directionless. It doesnt know what its doing. Its in collaboration with the white system now, he added.

There are those who said, dont ever rejoin the EFF because its a cult, and I agree with them. Theres no space for sound ideological reasoning, and there is no self-respecting person who can join both the ANC and EFF.

Shivambu said there were others who cited MK Partys fundamental weaknesses, adding, The organisation seems to be run by a family, seems to be inconsistent on issues of discipline, seems to be directionless and sometimes takes conservative and reactionary positions.

However, he declined to say whether he agreed with them or not.

Finally, Shivambu said some suggested forming a political party or movement to contest the 2026 and 2029 elections. However, his view was that the party should not be formed by an individual.

Let us subject that process to the people of South Africa. So, we are here today to announce that we are going to be convening a process of consulting the people of South Africa on the formation of a political movement, he said.
