Ex-uMkhonto we Sizwe MK Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu says he will not unite the black vote behind a fiefdom.

Shivambu is preparing for nationwide consultations on potentially forming a new political party after being demoted in the MK Party.

On Sunday 22 June, he launched an online recruitment drive for Mayibuye volunteers to help with the consultative process.

However, he is now facing criticism of splintering the electorate. Sanele Slovo Shandu, an MK Party youth leader, took aim at Shivambu in a post on X on Sunday.

We are for black unity, and it is a serious threat to white monopoly capital in a sense that they would fund whatever project that tempers with our unity, Shandu wrote.

Floyd warned against dividing black votes to unviable fiefdoms yet he is now at the centre of doing that. MKP FOREVER.

Shivambu was quick to respond with an apparent reference at MK Party as a fiefdom. We will unite the black vote behind a sensible movement Slovo, not a fiefdom, he replied.

This is in line with comments he made at a media briefing last week. A political party must not be a platform for self-enrichment. It must not be a fiefdom . It must not be a cult, he said.

Despite the criticism, the former Economic Freedom Fighters Deputy President forged ahead with his plans. In a series of X posts on Sunday, the claimed that his recruitment appeal had netted thousands of volunteers in a space of a few hours.

We are doing very well Commanders, Comrades, MaAfrika, Fighters and the People of South Africa. We are humbled by the first number that caused the system to reach limit, he wrote.
