Four elephants have been spotted roaming near the Zutshwa area in Botswanas Kgalagadi region, bringing the animals within approximately 70 km of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park the only major park under SANParks management without elephants.
The sighting was confirmed by Botswanas Department of Wildlife and National Parks, which works with SANParks in the joint management of the cross-border Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
This marks the closest recorded approach of elephants to the park in nearly 10 years. The last sighting occurred in 2015 when a small herd briefly entered the region before moving on.
