Eskom has extended its registration fee waiver for small-scale embedded generation SSEG systems to September 30 while piloting a prepaid metering option for residential rooftop solar users.
The waiver, initially set to expire on March 31, applies to Eskom customers installing systems of up to 50 kVA.
In parallel, the utility is testing a prepaid pathway that allows residential customers to install rooftop solar without switching to conventional billing. Customers may retain their existing prepaid setup or opt for a smart meter with broader rollout planned when implementation requirements have been finalised.
