Everton are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Olympique Lyon winger, Malick Fofana as the clubs remain in discussions with the Belgian overMalick Fofana personal terms to finalize his move to the Premier League.
The Toffees have had a relatively quiet summer transfer window so far, with David Moyes bringing in Thierno Barry from Villarreal and making Charly Alcarazs loan move permanent, while Mark Travers has arrived in goal as back-up for Jordan Pickford.
Softfootball understands that Fofana is expected to leave Lyon during the summer transfer window. The Rhone club are forced to sell players this summer in line with the agreements made with the DNCG, which led to the reversal of their relegation to the second tier of French football. The 20-year-old has attracted interest from several clubs, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
The Toffees are looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season, and manager David Moyes has the full backing of owners, The Friedkin Group in the current transfer window.
Adding quality winger options on both flanks is a key target for Everton. Fofana, 20, is an exciting prospect and can play on either side, though he generally features on the left.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, he shared on his X handle that Everton are in advanced talks to sign Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon.
The tweet reads:
Fofana joined Lyon from Belgian side Gent in January 2024 under a contract that lasts until June 2028. Last season he registered five goals and four assists across 29 league appearances.
The Belgian international also scored six in Lyon's Europa League run to the quarter-finals that they lost 7-6 on aggregate to eventual finalists Manchester United.
The 20-year-old came through the academy at Gent in his native Belgium, making his senior debut for the team in July 2022. He went on to play 64 games for the club, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists, before joining Lyon in January 2024 for a fee of 17million 14.85m plus 5m in potential bonuses.
