Balis popular elephant tourism experiences have come under fire after a new investigation exposed alleged widespread abusive practices.

The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals PETA recently released findings from an undercover probe into several Bali operators. The organisation alleges that the elephants at these facilities were subject to physical abuse, starvation, poor enclosure conditions and unethical human encounter activities.

According to PETA, some of these attractions market themselves as elephant rescues centres and sanctuaries and urged travellers and the travel trade to stop supporting these facilities.
