Eskom says power supply has been restored to parts of Meadowlands, in Soweto following protests by residents.

Locals say that they had been without electricity for months, with Eskom failing to assist. Eskoms spokesperson in Gauteng Amanda Qithi, says that while Meadowlands is one of the places where load reduction is implemented, the outage that led to protests was unplanned and due to faults.

"I can confirm that as of yesterday, there are areas that weve managed to restore. In some of the zones that were off, we have managed to restore them. However, we are still busy on site, trying to restore supply to zone one that is the area that is still off currently," explains Qithi.

Qithi says they are struggling to access the cable as its quite deep.

"Its taking us longer than we anticipated. We do have our technicians on the ground working towards restoring supply. Meadowlands is one of the areas where we implement load reduction," she says.
