The Professional Footballers Association, PFA, is seeking a change to the rules, following an injury to Nottingham Forests Taiwo Awoniyi.
Earlier this week, Awoniyi was placed in an induced coma after an emergency abdominal surgery.
The Nigerian striker had collided with a post during their 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Sunday.
The injury happened after assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis delayed in raising the flag to indicate offside against Anthony Elanga.
PFA, who have been in touch with Awoniyis family, are concerned about the incident and are ready to take action.
