Members of the community in Eldorado Park, in the south of Johannesburg, are expected to protest against the high levels of crime and shootings in the area on Saturday.

Police held a crime prevention imbizo in the area last week.

According to Johannesburg Ward 17 councilor, Dwayne Ponsonby, officers present at the imbizo disputed claims that violence was escalating , saying that the stats do not match the claims of residents.

Ponsonby has questioned polices stats and says the march aims to raise awareness about the lived experiences of residents.

"Its on for tomorrow. Were meeting at 14h30 to start at 15h00 at the Eldorado Park Police Station. There was a narrative created last week. The Eldorado Park is exaggerating the amount of deaths, the amount of gun violence in the area. So, tomorrow were bringing up, with proof - were putting up pictures on the walls of the police station and the fence, so everybody thats on site can see that this is something that is truly playing with the lives of residents," says Ponsonby.
