Liverpool continued their preseason tour of Asia in Yokohama, Japan as they aim to get in good shape ahead of the 2025/26 season which kick starts with a Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace. Softfootball watched on as Liverpool faced Yokohama F. Marinos in a battle that ended 3-1.
The Reds were coming from a big defeat at the hands of AC Milan, who thrashed them 4-2 in their previous preseason game. Slot was in demand of a response to the defeat and he did get one as the Reds dominated play and proceedings from the set go.
The Dutch gaffer had started with a very strong line up that saw Hugo Ekitike begin for the Reds alongside Mo Salah, Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz in attack. Apart from Ekitike, three other new buys were also handed a start - goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Miloso kerkez and Florian Wirtz all started.
A moment of tribute was paid to Liverpools late attacker, Diogo Jota who passed away suddenly in a car accident earlier this month as reported by Softfootball .
The game ended goalless in the first half but Ekitikes debut was the one that stole the lime lights as fans cheered him on right from the warm-up.
The goals started pouring in the second half with the Japanese team finding the net first but the Reds responded immediately with three goals from Florian Wirtz, Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha. Nyonis goal was assisted by new buy, Jeremie Frimpong.

After the unveiling of Luis Diaz by Bayern Munich and the goodbyes from Liverpool, Darwin Nunez returned to the squad and played a part as he came on for Ekitike at half-time. The Uruguayan had missed the 4-2 loss to AC Milan alongside Diaz and Slot had confirmed they both missed due to transfer unrest.
The Reds will now return to England as they welcome Athletic Bilbao on August 4 at the Anfield.
