Egypt international Sam Morsy has captained Ipswich Town to a historic Premier League promotion assisting on the final matchday against Huddersfield Town. This marks Sam Morsys fifth promotion, having led Chesterfield to League One in 2015, Wigan to the Championship twice in 2016 and 2018, and most recently Ipswich to the Championship from League One last season. However, this season its even more remarkable as captained Ipswich Town to a back-to-back promotions and a spot in next seasons Premier League for the first time since 2002. The Tractor Boys needed to beat Huddersfield Town at home on the final matchday to seal the promotion and they made sure to achieve this with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Wes Burns gave them the lead after just 27 minutes before Chelsea loanee Omari Hutchinson sealed the win with a second goal in the 48th minute assisted by Sam Morsy. The assist takes Morsys goal contribution this season to nine this season, having scored twice and assisted seven in 42 games this league season. The Egyptian midfielder missed just four games for Ipswich this season, all due to suspension, and completed 90 minutes in all but two games all season. If he features for Ipswich Town next season in the Premier League, Morsy will become the 13th Egyptian to ever play in the competition joining a list that consists of Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny, Mido, Trezeguet, and Ahmed Elmohamady. Ramadan Sobhi, Ahmed Hegazi, Hossam Ghaly, Amr Zaki, Mohamed Shawky, Ahmed Fathi, and Gedo are the rest of the names the made up the list. Morsy will also hope that the promotion earns him a return back to the Egyptian national team, which he represented nine times in November of 2023.
