Egypt wrapped up their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in Cairo in the games preview. Softfootball expected the encounter to be an easy one for Egypt, and the game eventually was more of a formality than a fight they'd already booked their ticket to North America long before kickoff, but still, the Pharaohs looked eager to finish strong.
The only goal of the game came early, in the 10th minute, through Mohamed Hamdi. After that, it was mostly about control and patience. Egypt passed the ball around, broke Guinea-Bissau's press when needed, and managed the tempo without really shifting out of second gear. Guinea-Bissau were organised but couldn't find a breakthrough of their own.
Before the game Egypt posted a video on their official X account about the need for the team to wrap up the campaign with a victory, and despite resting many starters, they had no problems securing all three points.
