The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse OUTA says the Economic Freedom Fighters EFFs case against an increase in the general fuel levy is not strong.

The Western Cape High Court is today expected to hear the EFFs urgent application against the increase.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced increases of 15 cents per litre for diesel and 16 cents per litre for petrol respectively when he tabled the 2025 budget in Parliament last month.

The general fuel levy increase is expected to take effect on Wednesday.

OUTA CEO, Wayne Duvenage says, I dont think the EFFs case is a strong one and by saying that, were not advocating that the fuel levy should go up. But it is one of the mechanisms available to the Minister of Finance, which he has every right to do as he balances the books.
