The Economic Freedom Fighters EFF has joined other political parties in opposing Communications Minister Solly Malatsi 's proposed amendments to BBBEE policies in the ICT sector.

These changes could potentially open the door for Elon Musk's company, Starlink, to operate in South Africa.

There's speculation that the recent meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and US President Donald Trump included discussions around Starlink assisting South Africa in combatting crime.

However, the EFF has raised serious concerns, calling the move a national security risk.

Party spokesperson Thembi Msane states, "Of more concern is a clear national security threat posed by Starlink as its owner has secured a manipulation of the laws of a country through the use of disinformation and by exerting his power and influence over the president of the US to surrender our telecommunication capabilities and allow him access and control in a country he has accused of a genocide is a threat to our nation."
