West Africas regional bloc, the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS has unanimously adopted Ghanas President John Mahama as its sole candidate for the position of Chairperson of the African Union in 2027.
The position is currently occupied by Angolas President Manuel Lourenco.
The decision was made at the 95th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers held in Abuja, Nigeria.
