The Eastern Cape Department of Traditional Affairs says they are pulling all stops to ensure there is no loss of life, during the upcoming summer initiation season in the province.
The department says it will train over 400 traditional surgeons and assistants across the province, as part of efforts towards restoring the dignity of this well-respected rite of passage in Xhosa culture.
Over the years this practice has been marred by deaths of boys while undergoing the journey to manhood.
