Bondo and Siaya Counties are set to become key centers for digital skills and innovation as the government progresses with the construction of the Bondo Standard Digital Hub and the Siaya Digital Hub Centre of Excellence in Nyamor. The inspection was led by Eng. John Tanui, CBS, Principal Secretary for the State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, highlighting the government's commitment to nationwide digital infrastructure development.
These projects are part of Kenya's broader rollout of the Digital Hub and Centre of Excellence model in every county. The hubs aim to anchor digital skills training, online work opportunities, and technology-driven enterprises, with a focus on youth empowerment and entrepreneurship. Eng. Tanui emphasized that the hubs will advance the Digital Superhighway agenda, supporting job creation, remote work, and innovation-led businesses.
During the visit, the Principal Secretary also toured the Siaya Community Digital Hub, engaging with over 280 digital workers currently earning through online work and digital services. He praised the hub's leadership and workers for making Siaya a growing center for digital jobs, demonstrating how digital infrastructure can translate into grassroots economic empowerment.
