The Democratic Alliance DA in the Metsimaholo Local Municipality has called on Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae to urgently intervene in the dire state of schools in the municipality. This follows an oversight visit by the DAs National Council of Province member and member of Parliament Dr. Igor Scheurkogel, which revealed serious delays in completing construction projects and hazardous conditions at several schools.
Local councillor Stone Makhema says HM Mthombeni High School has been under construction since 2019 with 20 of the 28 classrooms still not electrified, while learners at Taaibos Primary School, have to endure unpleasant weather conditions because they are served food from outside due to an incomplete feeding scheme kitchen.
Makhema explains: Classrooms are without electricity, unsafe kitchens, and half-built facilities have put learners at risk. Promises made years ago remain unfulfilled. We call on the premier Letsoha-Mathae to urgently intervene.
