The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union SATAWU has welcomed a ruling by the Gauteng North High Court made on Thursday 28 August compelling the North West Transport Investment NTI to release R18 million to pay the salaries of its employees.

The workers have been without pay for over a year, sparking a prolonged battle between SATAWU and the state-owned entity.

The court order mandates the business rescue practitioner BRP, Thomas Samson, to release the funds within 48 hours. The same court also removed Samson as the BRP in November 2024, but he has appealed that ruling.
