Concerns are mounting over the US recently imposed 30 tariff on South Africa and its potential ripple effects on South Africas small and medium-sized enterprises.
This has prompted some economists to advise SMEs to be innovative and adapt to the current global economic situation.
In the meantime, the South African government says it remains optimistic that ongoing engagements with Washington will soon bear fruit.
Economist and business analyst, Kholofelo Kugler, says disgruntled countries can approach the World Trade Organization to register their dissatisfaction.
"There are principles that say you should treat all countries the same. To some extent, some countries have lower tariffs than others. Arguably this will be against this principle. Obviously, these types of wide raging tariff measures are unprecedented. This hasnt been seen before and arguably it's worse than 2017 and 2018 when Trump won. When there were these 232 tariffs. This is really unprecedented and arguably, you know, that some countries can challenge it with the World Trade Organisation."
