The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) will meet with other public sector unions this week for a labour caucus as they wrap up consultations with their members ahead of the start of formal wage talks in the sector next month.
They are calling for good faith negotiations in the public sector from the Public Service and Administration Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi in the government of national unity (GNU).
The two-year 3% wage agreement in the public sector comes to an end in April 2025.
Cosatu convener Khaya Sodidi says their members want a double-digit salary increase.
As unions, weve done that economic outlook [looking] back to what weve received in the past 4 years. Weve taken that work and research work that weve done, weve taken it down to our members to give us a mandate, an informed mandate which is backed up by the economic information weve done.
