Connect Academy, a joint initiative between Safaricom and the ICT Authority of Kenya, held its inaugural graduation ceremony, celebrating the first cohort of 48 students. Launched during the 2024 Connected Africa Summit, the academy was created to address Kenya's growing demand for skilled digital infrastructure talent and to equip young Kenyans with practical, industry-ready fibre deployment skills.

The inaugural cohort was selected from Safaricom's technician base, referrals from the Connected Africa Summit, and community applicants, reflecting the programme's commitment to accessible opportunities and inclusive digital upskilling. Over a rigorous three-month curriculum, students received technical training, mentorship from industry experts, and hands-on exposure to real-world work environments.

The programme has already demonstrated strong employment outcomes, with 98 of graduates absorbed into the job market by Safaricom and partner organizations. The academy aligns with Kenya's national goal of strengthening the ICT workforce by creating a continuous pipeline of skilled technicians who can support the country's digital infrastructure expansion.
