The Freedom Front Plus VF Plus has condemned the City of Cape Town's decision to relocate residents from Salt River Bridge to the informal settlement, colloquially known as Ghost Town, Cape Town Etc reports.
This settlement, located adjacent to the Maitland Cemetery, is viewed by the political party as a glaring indicator of the City's faltering spatial planning policy.
The VF Plus says it will be standing in solidarity with the Kensington and Factreton Residents and Ratepayers Association Ken-Fac, which has voiced its objections against the relocation.
Ghost Town, which emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic, initially came into existence when the City of Cape Town set up tents to temporarily accommodate homeless individuals in the city centre.
However, what was meant to be a short-lived solution morphed into a more permanent fixture, as informal structures sprang up around the abandoned tents, turning the site into a burgeoning informal settlement.
