City Power Urges Public To Report Vandalism After M1 Bridge Fire

city power urges public to report vandalism after m1 bridge fire

City Power has called on residents to report acts of vandalism after a fire broke out under the M1 Bridge in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The blaze has caused major power outages in several parts of the city, including Braamfontein, Parktown West and Newtown.

The utilitys Chief Operating Officer, Charles Tlouane estimates that it may take up to two weeks for power to be completely restored.

"We believe the critical infrastructure, especially such as power is the backbone of every economy, and its infrastructure needs to be highly protected. And we really seriously need to join hands as a country, not only as leaving it to the powers that be, but collectively, as a country, we need to come together and make sure that we guard and protect this infrastructure," says Tlouane.

"So, we are currently at 24. Previously, we installed the interconnectors underground. So, we are busy testing them now and that should bring about relief. The work that is going to take place there where the damage has occurred is going to take us days, if not two weeks or so. But we want to bring back services as soon as possible," he adds.
