Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga has called on the G20 Disability Inclusion Working Group, to elevate disability issues at the G20 Summit. Chikunga was speaking at the 2025 South African Disability Conference at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg. She stressed the need to integrate disability concerns into broader G20 initiatives, including financial inclusion, economic participation and gender-based violence prevention.

The G20 presents a unique opportunity to strengthen global solidarity, deepen cooperation across regions, and advance practical solutions that move us closer to a truly inclusive world. It is fitting that this conference takes place during our Disability Rights Awareness Month. We must therefore, meaningfully involve fully, consult with and act upon the insights and recommendations of persons with disabilities, their families, caregivers in the organisations that represent them at every stage of decision making. In other words, there are no viable shortcuts to disability inclusion.
