Kaizer Chiefs has lost the annual Toyota Cup, for the second season in a row.
Ghanaian side, Asante Kotoko won 3-2 in sudden death after a penalty shoot-out in a match that ended goalless after regulation time. Chiefs missed four out of six penalties, with the visitors scoring three.
This was an opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs to showcase their latest signings in front of their local supporters after their pre-season tour in the Netherlands. Second half substitute, Mduduzi Shabalala was denied by the crossbar, in the 56th minute.
Chiefs were awarded a penalty late in the match, but captain Miguel Inacio failed to score the spotkick. The match ended goalless and it had to be decided on penalties. Both sides failed to score their last two penalties with Aiden McCarthy and Pule Mmodi, also missing for Chiefs.
The visitors converted their first penalty in sudden death, but Inacio missed another penalty in sudden death to hand the trophy to Asante Kotoko.
