charges dropped in argentine football rape case

An Argentine court has dismissed all charges against four professional footballers who had been accused of sexually assaulting a journalist while playing for top-flight club Velez Sarsfield last year.

The players had been suspended by the Buenos Aires side after the allegations emerged, which centred on an incident said to have taken place in March in the northern city of Tucuman.

The case was brought by a 24-year-old sports journalist who claimed she was raped after being invited to a hotel room by Uruguay international goalkeeper Sebastian Sosa.
