Former player Michael Carrick has emerged as the favourite to become Manchester United's caretaker head coach, sources said on Monday.
Club chiefs aim to have an appointment in place when players return to training on Wednesday, with talks progressing around the 44-year-old.
Carrick previously managed United for three games in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal, winning two and drawing one, before leaving when Ralf Rangnick arrived.
