Capitec Bank says it has restored its app after it experienced a major but brief outage on Friday, 1 August.

This was the second outage since April, prompting customers to take to social media to voice their frustration. Down Detector also showed a spike in outage reports from users, starting at around 11:30 and peaking at 12:05.

Many of them complained that the app was down on the first of the month when they needed to make important transactions.

We are aware that clients may experience issues signing into the app. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We are working on resolving the matter speedily, Capitec Bank said on X at around 12:00 midday.

Fortunately, it took less than an hour for the bank to resolve the issue, and it started notifying social media users to try restarting their devices .

We apologise for the inconvenience. We had some temporary app downtime however, the issue has now been resolved. Our IT team is working hard to keep these issues to a minimum, the bank said.

The app is up and running. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. Please restart the device and try again let us know if the issue continues, it added in several replies to customers.

It also advised customers to refresh or restart your app. Users should also try clearing the apps cache, Capitec said.

The apps first major outage of 2025 was in April when services were unavailable for nearly a day.

In July 2024, the global CrowdStrike incident also took Capitec Banks online systems offline, causing another severe disruption.
