As Cape Town navigated one of its busiest periods of the year, the City's waste management services faced added pressure from increased visitor numbers, packed public spaces and higher refuse volumes. Despite these seasonal challenges, many areas across the metro remained clean and welcoming, an outcome the City attributes to cooperation between residents, visitors and frontline staff.
The festive period traditionally places strain on refuse collection systems as beaches, parks and popular public spaces see a surge in use.
This year was no exception. However, according to the City, collaboration on the ground played a significant role in maintaining service levels.
