Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says recent statistics point to a modest drop in violent crime in targeted policing zones, particularly where the City's Law Enforcement Advancement Plan officers operate alongside national police.
The mayor noted that violent crime remains concentrated in neighbourhoods affected by prolonged gang activity. Still, he described a measure of optimism linked to increased confiscations of illegal firearms and drugs in priority precincts, as noted by the City of Cape Town .
Areas such as Mitchells Plain , Delft and Manenberg recorded significant spikes in seized contraband during the latest quarter.
