Build One South Africa BOSA is sounding the alarm on the stark disparity between the number of reported crimes and the number of inmates in South Africas prisons. According to the party, a mere 0.2 percent of the countrys population is behind bars, despite over one million crimes being reported annually.

The Minister of Correctional Services, Pieter Groenewald , recently revealed that there are only 167,343 inmates in the countrys prisons. BOSA argues that this exposes a glaring gap between offences committed, cases investigated and justice delivered.

In a recent media statement, the party claimed that the criminal justice system is failing, allowing criminals to act with impunity while law-abiding citizens live in fear. It added that under National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi , the National Prosecuting Authority NPA failed to secure meaningful convictions in major corruption and violent crime cases.
