Spain have announced their squad for next months UEFA Womens Euro 2025, with star midfielders Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas expected to spearhead the team's campaign. However, veteran forward Jenni Hermoso has again been left out of the national setup.
Manager Montse Tome has selected 11 players from the squad that lifted the 2023 World Cup, yet Hermoso-Spain's all-time top goalscorer-is absent, continuing a run of omissions since the controversial events that followed the World Cup final.
Tome reiterated that the decision is based purely on footballing grounds.
"I spoke with Jenni earlier this year," Tome explained at a press conference. "She joined us for the first FIFA window but didn't play much. We've assessed her season and had several discussions with her club coach. Weve taken everything into account in making this decision."
Hermoso, who now plays in Mexico for Tigres, has not been recalled since the incident involving former Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales, who kissed her without consent during the World Cup trophy presentation. Rubiales was fined 10,800 for sexual assault, a decision that is currently under appeal.
