The body of a three-year-old toddler was retrieved from a stream in Msholozi near White River, Mpumalanga.
It is suspected that the child followed his unaware mother when leaving home Tuesday morning.
Mbombela Municipal spokesperson Joseph Ngala says the mother noticed that the toddler is missing on her return.
