Former Northern Cape Transport, Roads and Public Works MEC, John Block and his eight co-accused are appearing before the Kimberley Magistrates Court for the alleged fraud, corruption and money laundering related to the construction of a mental hospital.

The Northern Cape Mental Hospital cost R2 billion to build. A tender of R 51 million was allegedly unlawfully awarded to those appearing before court.

Provincial National Prosecuting Authority NPA Spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane says, What you can expect today is to see the six accused, who previously appeared in the Kimberley Magistrates' Court as well as in Cape Town to join the previous ones who include John Block."

Senokoatsane says, What you can expect from today is to hear the position of the defense, are they also ready to proceed. At this point as the NPA and the Hawks we are ready to proceed with this matter going forward.
