The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority TRA of Bahrain has announced the launch of Satellite Direct-to-Device D2D services, making the Kingdom the first country in the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC to implement this advanced technology. The new service enables standard mobile phones to connect directly to satellites in areas where terrestrial network coverage is unavailable, including maritime zones.
This innovation is expected to significantly enhance public safety, ensuring reliable connectivity even in remote or hard-to-reach locations. By extending mobile access beyond conventional networks, Bahrain is taking a major step toward ensuring uninterrupted communication in all circumstances.
